Florence murder suspect in custody

One man is in custody after the death of a 29-year-old on Saturday.

FLORENCE, Ala. — A call to Florence police on January 23 for shots fired led to the arrest of one man for murder.

Florence police officers responded to the 500 block of South Cedar St. to a report of shots being fired. Upon arrival, police found an injured 29-year-old man. After receiving on-scene care, he was taken to North Alabama Medical Center for further care, where he later died.

According to police, 59-year-old James David Hall was taken into custody in connection with the incident. He was arrested, charged with murder and taken to the Lauderdale County Detention Center where he is awaiting a $150,000 bond.

On Monday, police identified the victim of the shooting as 29-year-old Hattan Atif Mashat of Florence, Alabama.
