FLORENCE, Ala. — Former City Councilman William "Dick" Jordan has died, according to a post from the City of Florence.
Jordan's legacy includes the renovation of Florence Harbor, which offers a marina, boat slips, a playground, and a restaurant for residents and visitors.
Jordan also played a key role in developing the Public Library, making it one of the most advanced libraries in North Alabama.
During his tenure, Jordan helped add eight new residential neighborhoods and much of the downtown business district to the National Register of Historic Places.
As mayor, he collaborated with city and county officials to foster economic growth, contributing to projects like the Shoals Robert Trent Jones Golf Course and the Marriott Hotel.
Serving since 1979, Jordan held various leadership roles within municipal government. He recently retired from his District 2 seat in July.
