HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Students with special needs at Whitesburg Elementary School now have a new sensory wall.
Grissom High School graduate and Girl Scout Ambassador, Deyanara Holt, built the sensory wall and delivered it to the school on Friday.
Holt got the idea to make the sensory wall after she heard a teacher at Whitesburg Elementary needed one, and she jumped on the opportunity.
She says this sensory wall will give students with special needs a place to help them focus and calm their nerves.
"The world around them is just so crazy and so disorienting for them. It can be very uncomfortable for them and kind of stressful, so this is really a way for them to be able to focus and destress," said Holt.
This project allowed Holt to earn the Girl Scout Gold award, which is the highest honor for Girl Scouts.
