Girls Inc. participants learn marketing skills

Local girls are getting a first-hand look at marketing during a special Girls, Inc. summer camp.

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Girls Inc. of Huntsville inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold aiding in the development of their whole selves. This summer, Girls Inc. is hosting a summer camp program, and Thursday young girls spent some time at a local marketing agency learning all things communications.

It didn't take long for young Girls Inc. participants to catch on to the concept of Branding, Marketing, and Public Relations at Flourish Marketing Agency. Flourish Marketing Agency Founder and CEO Megan Nivens-Tannett believes it's important to start discussing  the various roles and responsibilities these young girls could potentially pursue in this creative field. "So they've come in today. We walk them through a little bit about branding and how to create a logo and the importance behind marketing, and that can be everything from graphic design to public relations to strategic planning."

Second grader Karis Johnson explained her most favorite part about today's session. "We had the little books to write in. Everybody told me to stop drawing because I was too good." Third grader Camille Reynolds continued that she most enjoyed working on teams. "You had to say something that describes Girls Inc. and you say like strong, smart, bold, worthy, powerful."

Nivens-Tannett says it is really important that the girls explore those creative skills and critical thinking  skills so they can start thinking about future careers they might be passionate about and that truly make them happy. "Because when they find that if they can merge the two together, then you know, they'll they'll have to live these great, prosperous lives just loving what they're doing."
