GURLEY, Ala. — UPDATE: The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has released new information regarding the death investigation in Gurley after a person was found unresponsive early Monday morning.
Preliminary investigations reveal that 46-year-old Amanda Carol Cook was experiencing mental health issues, specifically a manic episode, and believed her husband and daughter were plotting against her, alleging that their phones had been hacked.
In an attempt to leave the house due to her erratic behavior, Cook's husband and daughter were confronted by Amanda, who pulled out a knife and injured her daughter. Her husband and daughter managed to escape to their vehicle, but during the incident, Amanda was hit by the vehicle and later died from her injuries.
The Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Cook's death.
While no arrests have been made, initial findings suggest the incident may be classified as an accidental death. The Sheriff’s Office has extended its condolences to Amanda's family and loved ones.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the 1000 block of Brownsboro Road around 3:40 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered the person unresponsive.
Deputies provided immediate assistance and called for emergency medical services, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
