HUNTSVILLE, Ala — The wait is over ice cream lovers! 'Handel's Ice Cream' is now open under new ownership.
The ice cream shop on Highway 72 West had its grand reopening today. Last June the shop closed following racial slurs on Facebook from the previous owner.
Brian Vaughn, who served in the military for 20 years, is the new franchise owner. "We were very excited about it. My pastor came out and said the opening prayer, and I wanted to make sure that happened before we serve our first ice cream, says Vaughn.
Handel's offers more than forty flavors including sherbet and cookie dough.
Rain or shine customers say they're excited to finally get their hands on their favorite frozen treat.
"Seeing that it was open again, it was such a shock! I'm so excited and I was like 'oh Handel's, they're back! They're back!' So the weather didn't matter. I just had to stop!," says regular customer, Valerie Smith.
The shop is open everyday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
