Harvest-area subdivision seeing lots of water leaking

Harvest-Monrovia Water Authority issued a Level 2 Water Conservation plan on August 14th. Customers say they are still seeing water leaks.

HARVEST, Ala. — Harvest-Monrovia Water Authority released a statement on September 5th, acknowledging the leaks throughout their area and are looking for a third crew to help solve the problems. They initially moved to a level 2 conservation plan on August 14th.

People living in the Cross Creek Subdivision aren't happy about the call to conserve water, especially after dealing with leaks that they say have been going on for some time, a couple for even over a year.

"I don't expect the residents here to dig up their own lawn to figure out what the where the water leak is or where it's at," said HOA President Jim Frederick," They're told we'll get out there as soon as we can, which there's never a date."

One storm drain has been flowing with water for 2-3 years, while others haven't seen any liquid. Residents say their neighbors' lawn has shown the effect of water leaks since August 2023. "Things are being reported, but they're just not getting fixed," said Frederick.

Locals say after a company came to install Comcast cable lines, issues have only gotten worse. Bogged-down lawns and slippery moss are apparent at two other locations, as well.

We reached out to the company who installed the cable and they are "unaware of any water issues".

As Level 2 water conservation efforts continue in the Harvest-Monrovia Water/Sewer Authority district, officials say they have been purchasing water from nearby utilities in order to keep up with demand.

In a public update posted Friday, the utility said that while they have "been able to maintain tank levels over the last few days, [they] have not been able to gain extra."

The result, they continued, is lower pressure being experienced by water customers at higher elevations.

"We have been purchasing additional water from Madison Utilities for most of the summer and on Tuesday August 13th we installed our portable booster pump to purchase additional water from Huntsville Utilities," they wrote.

The hope is that the added intake of water will allow the tanks to fill "and not just maintain the current level."

Crews are working over the weekend to complete this added water intake, but the authority stresses they need customers' assistance by refraining from watering lawns on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during the Level 2 conservation effort.

Lawn watering is allowed Monday and Wednesday for even numbered addresses and Tuesday and Thursday for odd numbered addresses.
