HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — South Huntsville Main Business Association is partnering with Grissom High School to bring art to South Huntsville.
Grissom High art students will be responsible for adding colorful LED lights in the pedestrian tunnel connecting the two sides of Hayland Road.
The unveiling of Tiger Tunnel at Hays Farm is set for Friday, November 17 at 4 p.m.
Hays Farm representatives are excited to begin working on the project. "It's behind the new Grissom High School," Katie Bosarge-Patterson said. "It is a collaboration between the South Huntsville Main Business Association and the art department of Grissom High School to bring public art to South Huntsville."
Bosarge-Patterson also hopes students will be able to paint murals in the tunnel.
Residents of South Huntsville are excited about the new edition.
“As a longtime resident of South Huntsville and active board member with South Huntsville Main I’m excited to see this project become a reality," Board member for South Huntsville Main Business Association, Jerry Cargile said. "We hope the official dedication and lighting of this tunnel will serve as a symbol that we’ve turned the corner to a fresh and new beginning for what has been a very challenging past couple of years. We also hope that through the involvement of the Grissom Visual Arts Department it will be a symbol of encouragement as we look to the future. We expect this is the first of many projects to come as we continue to build on the sense of place for this part of our community that we call home."
