HAZEL GREEN, Ala. — Administrators at Hazel Green High School were notified Wednesday morning about a security threat on the school's campus.
A student, whose identify is being kept confidential due to his age, had allegedly brought a gun onto the school's campus.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Department School Resource Officer responded to the security threat and placed the student and his belongings into custody.
During a search of the student’s belongings, a handgun was found inside of the students backpack.
The Madison County School System responded to the safety concern with the following statement:
"The Madison County School System takes this incident seriously, and we ask for the communities help in addressing the critical issue of student safety. We commend those who reported the safety concern and encourage students to always report safety concerns to school administrators."
The Sheriff’s Office is currently handling the incident. The student will be disciplined according to the Madison County Board of Education Student Code of Conduct.
