HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville is home to the final stop of Major League Fishing's Toyota Series. 400+ anglers will be setting of from Ditto Landing, competing for a grand prize of $235 Thousand. It all comes down to Saturday for the participants.
"We'll have a cut. Top 25 pros., top 25 anglers will go out on the championship Saturday this week," said Tournament Director Mark McWha. "Tremendous opportunity to bring a big championship to Ditto Landing," said Convention Visitors Bureau Sports Development Manager Joel Lamp.
The Toyota Series has made stops in Alabama before, but never fore their championship round. "Huntsville has the central location in the southeast. You can go in a lot of different directions from a fishing standpoint," said Lamp, "We're in the middle of the bass fishing mecca of the world. This is a chance for us to kind of stake our claim in that space."
Officials say this is also a chance for some major economic impact, $1.2 Million to be exact. Lamp said this number can easily be more. "They've been here multiple times throughout the year that we're not able to track because they're going to come in and do their practice and they kind of slip out," said Lamp.
Officials want people to see Huntsville as a top tier fishing destination. Lamp said, "Being able to have that central location that everybody can come to, you can stay here and fish anywhere. Being able to do that, kind of push that, is kind of our focus with this."
The final day of competition is Saturday. Anglers will take off at 7:00a.m. and do their final weigh in of the season starting at 3:00p.m.
