HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville Animal Services is declaring a state of emergency due to overcrowding in its shelter. The organization says it has been operating at maximum capacity for several months and now faces a critical situation that threatens the welfare of the animals in its care.
“We cannot continue under these circumstances, and we urgently need your help to reduce the number of dogs in our shelter,” officials said in a statement on social media.
To encourage adoptions, Huntsville Animal Services is waiving adoption fees for all dogs over six months old, while puppies will be available for just $10. This emergency promotion begins October 25 at 9 a.m. and will run through Monday afternoon.
“Our hope is to facilitate numerous adoptions during this time, allowing us to avoid making difficult, life-threatening decisions that affect both our staff and the animals in our care,” officials added.
