HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville Animal Services is encouraging residents to adopt pets instead of buying them, as part of the nationwide 'Clear the Shelters' campaign this August. The initiative aims to find homes for shelter animals and help the overcrowding at the shelter.
“We invite everyone to come out, meet these wonderful animals and consider giving them a loving forever home,” Mayor Tommy Battle said. “Together, we can ensure every pet finds a family, and every home has a furry friend.”
To encourage adoptions, the shelter is waiving fees for most adult pets. Each adoption includes vaccinations, a microchip, spay or neuter surgery, a city license, and a bag of pet food while supplies last. Some exclusions apply.
Huntsville Animal Services Interim Director Virgie Graham highlighted the urgent need for adoptions, noting the high number of intakes this summer.
The campaign, now in its 10th year, has surpassed one million adoptions nationwide. To learn more about the ‘Clear the Shelters’ campaign and see a list of pets, visit here.
