Huntsville branch of National Coalition of 100 Black Women hosting feminine hygiene supply donation drive

The National Coalition of 100 Black Women Inc. Greater Huntsville Area Chapter is gathering donations to support girls in grades 5-12 in local schools.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Did you know that 1 in 4 students reported skipping class or leaving school early due to lack of access to menstrual products? The National Coalition of 100 Black Women Inc. Greater Huntsville Area Chapter is hosting a donation drive to help get these products to girls in grades 5-12 in Huntsville-area schools.

Donations can be dropped of by Feb. 12 at the following locations:

  • Calvary Assembly of God - Decatur
  • Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Recreation Center
  • G's Country Kitchen
  • Madkins Chapel CPCA
  • Premiere Dental Spa
  • SAC's Kitchen Soul Food Restaurant
  • St. Mark Baptist Church

The groups Facebook page states that "NCBW- GHAC is committed to providing advocacy for Black women and girls in the area of health equity, education, and economic empowerment. We also advocate for self-sufficiency through economic empowerment, education, and workforce development." Their "Because I Am A Girl" is a FREE leadership mentoring program for young ladies in grades 5th-12th to "empower young girls on their way to becoming young women by ensuring they are set up for success in the areas of personal growth, leadership development, educational development, and social development."

They also host economic empowerment programs, advocacy training, voter education, registration, and rights information, health information, and events like the annual Women's Expo HSV. Their Opulence in Black Fundraising Gala is on March 30, 2024.

Nationally, NCBW consists of more than 3,000+ members representing 62 chapters in 27 states. According to their website, members address concerns in economic empowerment, education, health and public policy, to promote gender and racial equity.
