Huntsville's digital hub for roadwork updates

In the city's development portal, this shows how residents access information on ongoing road projects, closures, and construction.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville residents can take trip into the heart of the city's roadwork developments. Within the city's development portal, this page is a way to stay informed about ongoing road projects, improvement initiatives, closures, and the construction shaping around the city. 

The website can be found at Roadwork Updates, it offers a interactive experience for residents to follow the city's progress. 

Some of the major project updates are:

  • The Greenbrier Parkway, a transformative five-phase project connecting major highways can be viewed with updates that show the progression and cost of the entire project.
  • Monroe Road improvements, on Monroe Road from Pulaski Pike to 1 mile east of Liberty Hill Road. 
  • Northern Bypass, will consist of 3.4 miles of a new four-lane divided highway and 1 mile of roadway improvements along North Parkway to accommodate for this new intersection
  • Winchester Road from Dominion to Naugher Road, 2.25 miles of a new five-lane roadway, this phase aims to establish a connection with the County's recently completed section. 
  • Phase 2 of Martin Road improvements, 1.6 mile, five-lane roadway improvement from Old Jim Williams Road to Laracy Drive. The is expected to take 18 months to complete.

The interactive maps become the virtual tour guides, offering an exploration of the city. Users can search the routes of major projects, gain a visual understanding of the planned improvements and the impact on their daily routes.

On the Metropolitan Planning Organization page, residents can learn about:

  • The Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP), a description of funded transportation projects for the next four years including cost and funds.
  • The Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) is a road map of transportation projects for the next 25 years in the Huntsville.
  • Regional High Capacity Transit Study used MPO data and the findings from the Regional Commuter Study to determine the best corridors for high-capacity transit. 
  • 2023 Annual listing of obligated projects
