Huntsville/Madison County gives number of recovered COVID-19 cases in Alabama

Alabama has had more than 1,200 recovered cases of COVID-19 so far.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The United States continues to lead the world in number of COVID-19 cases, with more than 680,000 people. Helping contribute to that number is the state of Alabama with more than 4,500 confirmed cases.

Today city leaders wanted to share more optimistic numbers to help ease the minds of the general public. Dr. Karen Landers with the Alabama Department of Public Health confirmed they have seen more than 1,200 recovered patients from the coronavirus outbreak in Alabama.

The new number then sparked the question of what indicates a full recovery?Dr. Landers said, "Persons who have had COVID need to be afebrile for at least 3 days with no fever reducing medication, and have been a minimum of 7 days from the onset of their symptoms."

Madison County Commission Chariman Dale Strong added to the conversation saying he believes we are beginning to flatten the curve.

"People have listened, and people have responded," he said.

Many people have come together to help treat patients and help essential workers. Strong credited the North Alabama community with the slow decrease in daily cases.

"Molecular testing here in Madison County, Alabama was created in 29 days to determine those who were infected with COVID-19 with results in a matter of hours. We saw how mechanical engineers tested how to make a ventilator breathe for more than one person. We've learned to produce our own medical supplies with our own hands through 3-D printing in record timing."

These accomplishments have played a significantly role in North Alabama getting better.
