HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Huntsville High School Band is raising funds to replace its equipment truck, which they say is older than 20 years.
"Our 20+-year-old band trucks are now unreliable and too expensive to repair. Our 120 member marching band has three out-of-town competitions, and 11 football games to perform - and we can't do it without our drums, tubas, xylophones and our props," the band wrote on its GoFundMe page.
The new equipment truck will cost the band more than $75,000. They say they're already halfway there, but need your help reaching its $40,000 GoFundMe goal.
As of August 16, the band has raised $4,000 towards its goal. Organizer Ben Boles said on the GoFundMe page that the band will receive matching funds up to $10,000 until September 1.

"We are the Huntsville High School Band - a proud competition marching Band that was hurt financially during Corona Virus. And our 20+ year old band trucks are now unreliable and too expensive to repair. Our 120 member marching band has three out-of-town competitions, and 11 football games to perform - and we can't do it without our drums, tubas, xylophones and our props. The season we are so looking forward to is now on the brink... without fast action!!!
If you were in the band, love football, or think Friday night games are essential - your donation can really "save the season" for this group of exceptional students.
Our new truck is going to cost over $75,000 and we are almost half way there! We really could use your help. And if you are able to donate over $100, we will make a custom video just for you featuring some of the brightest kids the Huntsville City Schools has to offer!
Our trucks have over 290,000 miles on them and their expense to maintain exceeds their value - and frankly it's rolling the dice - even to make it to our home football stadium just 3 miles away. Our first game is coming up in Birmingham - and if we rent trucks, we cut into our fundraising! Our plea is urgent, humble and necessary! If you love raising smart kids, love Friday night football, and love the positive energy that comes through musical education - this is the fundraiser for you!"
