Huntsville honors military | Armed Forces Celebration Week

From a community softball game to a fireworks show, here's a preview of the week's events.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — It's Armed Forces Celebration Week in Huntsville, and the Huntsville/Madison County community is gearing up to honor our military with a variety of activities. Here's a look of the events for the week ahead.

Monday, June 10:

Leaders from Huntsville, Madison, Madison County, and Redstone Arsenal will gather at the Huntsville-Madison County Veterans Memorial downtown at 8 a.m. to sign a proclamation. If it rains, they'll move inside to the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber. There will be patriotic music by the Maneuver Center of Excellence Band from Fort Moore, Georgia.

At 6:30 p.m., there will be a Concert in the Park Fireworks Show on the lawn of the Huntsville Museum of Art. Fireworks will start at 8:30 p.m. If it rains, the event moves to VBC South Hall, and the fireworks will be canceled.

Tuesday, June 11:

The Armed Forces Celebration Luncheon will take place at VBC Saturn Ballroom from 12 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. Registration is closed.

Wednesday, June 12:

Community leaders will host the community softball game. Happening at Toyota Field from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., there's an annual softball game between Team Redstone and a community team. It is free to attend, and the first 500 people get a free hot dog. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.

Thursday, June 13:

Rocket to the Tropics will be held at Saturn V Hall at U.S. Space & Rocket Center’s Davidson Center from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Proceeds support AUSA.

Friday, June 14:

The Armed Forces Prayer Breakfast is at The Summit on Redstone Arsenal from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. It's free for military/veterans and their families. Sponsored by Madison County Chairman and hosted by North Alabama Veterans & Fraternal Organizations Coalition and Madison County Military Heritage Commission. Register here by June 10.

Also, the U.S. Army Birthday Celebration Dinner presented by AUSA will take place at Von Braun Center East Hall at 5 p.m. Register here.

Saturday, June 15:

The 249th U.S. Army Birthday Celebration will be held at Redstone Gateway (Outside Gate 9, Research Park Blvd.) from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. More details here.

Wednesday, June 19:

The 2024 AUSA Iron Mike Golf Tournament will take place at The Links at Redstone starting at 7 a.m. for registration and 8:30 a.m. for the shotgun start. Breakfast, lunch, beverages, and awards will be provided. More information available online.

Military Discounts:

Various attractions, including the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, EarlyWorks Museums, Heart of the Valley YMCA, and Huntsville Museum of Art, are offering discounted or free admission for military families during Armed Forces Celebration Week.
