Huntsville library adds new local artists to streaming service

Blast Artists not only have another place to exhibit their music and get paid for doing so, but many have also received opportunities to perform.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library’s (HMCPL) Blast Music Streaming Platform has added 25 new North Alabama artists to its free music streaming service.

The total number of artists on the platform is 108; with 109 albums representing a wide range of musical genres including hip-hop, jazz, rock, folk, electronic, and more.

Blast Artists not only have another place to exhibit their music, but many have also received opportunities to perform for being associated with the program.

In 2022, Blast artists could be seen at the Camp to Amp Festival for the opening weekend of The Orion Amphitheater, at PorchFest*FivePoints, the 5 Points BLOK Festival, and Scooby Sessions IV at Campus 805.

Blast artists have also seen great community support because of their association with the platform. Local public radio station, WLRH 89.3 has been a strong supporter of Blast and regularly features the artists on their weekly Valley Sounds radio show. The Huntsville Music Office and Arts Huntsville have also been great supporters of the platform and artists.

Annie Phillips, Digital Services Librarian at HMCPL and Blast Project Manager says, “It’s incredibly gratifying to realize that in a little over a year, Blast has added 108 local musicians from a diverse array of genres from across North Alabama. With the help of our curator teams, the artists, and other music community members and partners, we have received an abundance of talented submissions for all three rounds we have held.”

HMCPL holds submission rounds for artists twice a year, so the platform and its offerings will continue to grow. Blast’s fourth submission round will begin February 1, 2023. For more information about Blast please visit their website
