HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A new Huntsville Transit facility is underway. The new station is expected to accommodate the growth of the transit system over the next ten to fifteen years. The transfer station expected to open soon, will be a hub for Huntsville Transit bus routes, traveling in and out each day.
Huntsville's Director of Parking and Public Transit Quisha Bryant explained that as the city continues to grow having public transit in place is key.
"We'll be pulsing from here. So this will kind of become our new hub for all of our routes for the city of Huntsville as we provide transit services throughout the city. Whether it's for our riders who need transit or our riders who choose transit." Bryant shared, "And so we want to make sure as we continue to grow as a city, that the public transit that we're offering to our citizens meet continues to meet their needs."
Vice President of Construction for Consolidated Construction Company Eric Kallas said this project has taken a little over a year and these are some of the features to expect.
"Well, the main ticketing building has a ticketing office and a waiting area for passengers, and they'll have digital signage telling them when the routes will be going in and where the busses will be parked at. It will be an icon for the city of Huntsville in their skyline for many years to come." Kallas said.
So what's left to be completed here at the transfer station?
"We're finishing up all of the items inside of our lobby and the area where our employees will be working. We'll have a ticket sale will be it will be selling tickets from the office up front here. And then just continuing also the landscaping and the concrete around the building," said Bryant.
