HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Huntsville City Council voted to declare Mayor Tommy Battle as the mayoral winner in the 2024 municipal election. Mayor Battle will continue serving in his post for a fifth term, beginning Nov. 4.
When qualifications for municipal elections ended on June 25, Mayor Battle was the sole candidate for Mayor.
According to state law, a City Council shall declare an unopposed municipal candidate as the winner, upon proper certification. The move saves resources and taxpayer dollars because polls do not have to open in unaffected precincts.
“I am humbled and honored at the opportunity to continue serving this great city,” said Mayor Battle. “Council’s action gives us a chance to get a jump start on preparations for the coming term, to meet with our administration and be ready to start out of the gates quickly.”
The municipal election will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 27 with candidates for City Council and School Board Districts 1 and 5. For more information, visit here.
