HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — One Huntsville organization teamed up with a local barbershop to register people to vote ahead of November elections.

'Tea With Tiffany' founder, Tiffany Draper, says at least twenty people registered to vote on Saturday at the Fade Factory Barbershop on Jordan Lane. It was the organization's first-ever 'register to vote' event. The focus was primarily on getting the youth to register.

Draper says this was the community's way of protest in the wake of George Floyd's death by a Minneapolis police officer.

"What this is about is to make sure that we can offer people the opportunity - like a place - if they want their voices to be heard and they want to be heard, they got to do it on paper," says Draper.

Draper says the barbershop was a good spot to engage the community. Fade Factory Barbershop owner, Jai Coles, believes people have to stay pro-active if they want to see a change.

"If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. So, you got to get situated and put people in place to make decisions that you want to be made," says Coles.

Draper says Church of the Highlands pastors and volunteers also donated food and helping hands.

Organizers plan to hold their 'register to vote' event every month until November. The next one is scheduled for July 25th. Draper says she's working with local pastors, and law enforcement for the next event.
