HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville Parks & Recreation will soon open registration for its popular Male Mentorship Program for the 2024-2025 school year and is also looking for dedicated and compassionate mentors to join the team.

Aimed at empowering young boys ages 7-16 to become confident, positive individuals, the Male Mentorship Program equips participants with essential life skills through a variety of engaging activities, supportive mentors and inspirational speakers.

Registration opens Monday, July 22, and continues through Monday, Aug. 19. Due to limited space, interested participants are encouraged to register promptly. The registration fee is $25 per child.

Scheduled throughout the school year and overseen by trained recreation staff, the Male Mentorship Program presents opportunities for participants to learn, grow and build meaningful connections in a safe environment. The program is structured into two age groups – ages 7-12 and ages 13-16 – tailored to provide personalized attention and development.

In addition to participants, the program is actively seeking male mentors who are passionate about making a positive impact in the community. All prospective mentors will undergo a thorough background check to ensure the safety and well-being of program participants.

"This initiative is among the most fulfilling programs we offer because it shapes the lives of our youth, equipping them with skills that are fundamental to their future success,” Parks & Recreation Director James Gossett said. “We hope our enthusiasm about the program is shared by others in our community who have wisdom to share with our participants.”
