HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville Police Department (HPD) is looking to add more officers. The HPD is now accepting applications for its 72nd session of the Huntsville Police Academy, scheduled to kick off in February 2025.
With over 400 sworn officers, HPD says the department values diversity, with officers from various backgrounds, education levels, and experiences, showcasing its commitment to inclusivity.
“Our police department has a long and rich history of professional service to the citizens of the City of Huntsville,” HPD Chief Kirk Giles said. “Being a police officer is an extremely rewarding career, and there is no better place to serve than the City of Huntsville.”
Those interested must meet specific criteria to be eligible for the Huntsville Police Academy:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Minimum age of 20 to apply, with graduation age requirement of 21
- Valid driver’s license
- High school diploma or GED
- Successful completion of interview board, drug screening, medical examination, and polygraph
- Former military personnel should have received an honorable discharge on DD214
