Huntsville police are staying cool by wearing outer carrier vests.
Instead of wearing a vest under the uniform, the bulletproof vests are worn over the shirt with the badge attached. They have two zippers on each side making them easy to pull off and put back on.
The Huntsville Police Department has been using the outer carrier vests for over a year. Police say they have come in handy this summer.
Public Information Officer for the Huntsville Police Department, Lt. Michael Johnson, said, “When these officers are out directing traffic or if they have some physical activity where their heart rate gets up and they’re sweating and they want just a little air for a little relief, they can get in their car with the air conditioner, unzip it if they want to or they can go in the precinct and remove it if they have to.”
The vests also shift the weight of all the tools the officers have to wear.
