Huntsville-Madison County Public Library opens submissions for local music streaming platform

HMCPL is opening its second round of submissions for its local streaming service Blast.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala — The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library (HMCPL) is opening its second round of submissions for its local music streaming service called Blast and is looking for artists to participate. Musicians from the Tennessee Valley counties of Alabama (Colbert, DeKalb, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, Morgan) are eligible to submit music for consideration.

Blast is the Library’s living music collection that documents North Alabama’s vital, evolving music scene. Music lovers can stream sounds from a local community of diverse creators anytime, anywhere.

The Library is accepting submissions until March 4. Once artists submit their music for consideration, a group of curators, made up of local community members and Library staff will make the final selections. Artists will be compensated if their music is selected for streaming.

“Blast launched last fall with 40 local musicians included in our collection. We have seen a tremendous success from this platform and cannot wait to expand it even further through this round of submissions,” said Annie Phillips, HMCPL’s Digital Services Librarian and Blast’s project manager.
