Huntsville remembers 9/11 with ceremony

Mayor Tommy Battle hosted the ceremony to honor the victims of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — In honor of September 11, 2001, the Huntsville Police Department, Huntsville Fire and Rescue, Huntsville Emergency Medical Services (HEMSI), and Mayor Tommy Battle held a ceremony today. 

The event took place at HPD’s West Precinct/Fire Station 1, with additional observances at all local fire stations. A moment of silence was observed, and emergency personnel sounded their sirens at 7:46 a.m. to mark the time the first World Trade Center tower was struck.

Huntsville Fire & Rescue Chief Mac McFarlen emphasized the importance of remembering the events of 9/11, stating," Remember, the people that lost their lives on this day, civilians and uniformed personnel and all the people that lost their lives."
