HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Huntsville music festival set to happen this year has announced its official lineup. The South Star Music Festival takes place at John Hunt Park on September 28 and 29, 2024.
The South Star Music Festival has announced its schedule for the upcoming two-day event. Starting on Saturday, Sept. 28, festivities start at 1:30 p.m. with Winona Fighter taking the stage first. The day ends with a performance by Gwen Stefani at 11 p.m.
Sunday's lineup also starts at 1:30 p.m. featuring Billy Allen and The Pollies. The event wraps up with a performance by Blink-182 at 11 p.m.
"I feel like the team who put the lineup together, absolutely knocked it out of the park and really delivered something that kind of everyone in Huntsville can be proud of," Music Officer Matt Mandrella shares. "You know, like the response so far has been, like, overwhelmingly positive. And so, you know, it was a lot of work putting the lineup together and it took a lot of time and effort and planning. And so that's the fun part to get out and now we're just really excited to get tickets on sale and have a really, really awesome party out at John Hunt Park this September."
The full lineup for the festival includes headliners Gwen Stefani and Blink-182, along with Shinedown, Jane’s Addiction, Jimmy Eat World, TLC, Juvenile, Gin Blossoms, Candlebox, Dexter, Winona Fighter, Beck, Sublime, Goo Goo Dolls, Ludacris, Big Boi, Pete Yorn, Vanessa Carlton, Bully Billy Allen and the Pollies.
"It's something that we really think you can deliver for all ages. You know, like I'm a Blink 182 fan, but I have friends who are like, really into that band because they have like middle and high school kids who are kind of having a resurgence," Mandrella shares. " It's a mix of genres for everybody. We really have an intention to make this summer a reflection of our community and really try to have something in place at the event that is like something for everybody kind of approach."
In 2023, Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle announced that a major music festival, produced by C3, would be coming to Huntsville. C3 is the group behind music events like Austin City Limits and Lollapalooza.
"You know, we're diving in, we're going to have a comprehensive traffic plan, parking situation, a shuttling system, and we'll be aggressively communicating that to the public as we get closer to the event," Mandrella shares. "So, yeah, I think 30 to 35000 people at John Hunt Park each day like and just looking at that lineup, I mean, that just seems like a really, really, I could imagine worse things to do in the park for that day and then I think we did as good of a job as we could have done for that and year one, given the time constraints and you know, I have nothing but amazing things to say, like I'm so happy and excited for our community right now. There's been a lot of people voicing that they want a big spring jam or a big festival back and to be able to deliver that for the community, I think is really special."
John Hunt Park will host the festival, offering two stages and a bar to ensure people can enjoy the music without missing any weekend football games.
Advance tickets for the South Star Music Festival go on sale Thursday, April 25, while the public sale starts Friday, April 26. One-day and two-day passes are available.
