HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A Huntsville church has one hundred reasons to celebrate. One of its oldest members will turn one hundred years old.
Mrs. Sylvia Elizabeth Parker Scott will turn the big 100 this Wednesday. "Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. Came to Huntsville in 1947 as a bride and have been here ever since," says Scott.
She's been a member of Church Street Cumberland Presbyterian Church for a while. "You heard her say that she's been here for sixty plus years. So, well preceding my time," says Dr. Mitchell Walker, Sr., Church Street Cumberland Presbyterian Church Pastor.
"She is just a wonderful person, just so personable and down to earth and so much wisdom; And it's just great to be a part of this 100th birthday celebration," added Walker.
Her church celebrated her life with a drive thru parade. How does it feel? "I haven't come up with an adjective yet. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Grateful. Thankful. All of that good stuff," says Scott.
Scott says she feels grateful, especially now during such difficult times. "I'm still wondering if I'm here. I don't know how to answer that question. But whatever it is, it's the will of 'The Almighty'," she added.
Her advice on living a good life?
"Be true to yourself. Learn who you are and stand. Follow the rules of health, the good book, and the law. And go forward," says Scott.
The pastor plans to visit Mrs. Scott on her birthday this Wednesday.
