LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. — An investigation is underway after an inmate was found unresponsive in his cell at Limestone Correctional Facility on Sunday.
The inmate, identified as 62-year-old Steven Wayne Benton, was discovered by staff, who immediately administered life-saving measures. Benton was then transported to the facility’s Health Care Unit for further treatment, but medical personnel were unable to revive him. He was later pronounced dead.
Benton had been serving a life sentence for manslaughter out of Autauga County.
The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) said its Law Enforcement Services Division is currently investigating the cause of death.
