HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville residents can mark Juneteenth, a day commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, with a special festival on June 15 at Big Spring Park. The event, hosted by Amazon and the City of Huntsville’s Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (ODEI), is a chance for locals to come together, enjoy music, and honor cultural heritage. Running from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., the festival will feature live music, community involvement, and recognition of Juneteenth's significance.

“The Juneteenth Festival is designed to unite our community and raise awareness about Juneteenth National Independence Day,” said Kenny Anderson, Director of Huntsville ODEI. “It serves as a powerful reminder of our culturally diverse community's strength and resilience. We are deeply thankful to Amazon for their invaluable support of this event.”

People can expect performances by B2B and The Shindellas, as well as access to free health screenings and haircuts. The event will showcase local businesses, a special exhibit from the Huntsville Revisited Museum, and acknowledgment of Black leaders. The night will capped off with a fireworks display. Manna House will also provide food for the first 1,500 families attending the festival.

"Amazon seeks to unify the community of Huntsville and surrounding areas by once again hosting the Juneteenth Festival, in partnership with the City of Huntsville's ODEI," said Tron Hunter, Co-President of Amazon's Global Black Employee Network. "Volunteers from across our operational facilities will be in attendance to show their support of unity and freedom as we commemorate another Juneteenth here in Huntsville."

Juneteenth National Independence Day is celebrated on June 19.
