ATHENS, Ala. — Keeping Athens Limestone Beautiful is hosting its third annual Trash Attack and Waterway Cleanup on Saturday, March 6.
There will be three locations the organization will work to clean up at this event, including the following:
- Big Spring Memorial Park duck pond in Athens
- Corner of Main Street and Ardmore Avenue in Ardmore
- Hatchery Road Boat Launch off of Highway 99 in West Limestone
The cleanup event is sponsored by the Tennessee Valley Authority and Keep Alabama Beautiful in partnership with the Alabama Department of Transportation.
The Tennessee Valley Authority and Keeping Athens Limestone Beautiful will provide coffee and donuts to volunteers at 8 a.m. at the three starting locations.
To register for the event, send an email to KALBCares@gmail.com or call 256-233-8000. Registration is not required to participate, but is encouraged to help organizers know how much supplies will be needed.
All adult participants must sign a Hold Harmless Agreement that will be available on the day of the event. Participants under the age of 18 must have a consent form in addition to the hold harmless agreement for minors signed by a guardian. Minors also must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Trash bags, gloves, vests and litter grabbers will be provided by the organizations. Participants are encouraged to bring their own gloves if possible.
Participants should wear long pants and appropriate footwear.
Watercrafts are welcomed to help remove litter from the Elk River. All required safety equipment must be on board.
