HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Rocket scientists of tomorrow got a hands-on introduction to aerospace engineering on Thursday when the U.S. Space & Rocket Center hosted about 900 students and teachers for “Launch Across America: Baking Soda Rocket Day.”
The event was sponsored by Arm & Hammer, which provided the fuel for the bottle-based rockets.
Grown-ups helped get the ships airborne – though some experienced a “launch pad anomaly.” The blast-offs took place in Rocket Park, drawing oohs and ahs from the young rocketeers.
The science-themed museum is providing instructions to build your own rocket for those who missed out on the event.
