ATHENS, Ala. — A lane reduction on Northbound I-65 between Exits 347 and 353 is expected to last until about 6 p.m. Sunday while crews monitor the remnants of a large grass fire, according to Athens Fire and Rescue.
Fire Chief James Hand reported AFR and other county agencies have contained the grass fire, which extended between I-65 exit 351 and the Buc-ee’s convenience store in the area of South Lindsay Lane.
Crews from Priceville, Decatur and Huntsville also assisted in battling the flames. By 5:00 p.m., the fire was considered contained and crews were only dousing hot spots.
The fire was on the east side of the interstate, Hand said, and briefly threatened some structures around the Hampton Inn area.
The cause is unknown and the estimated size of the blaze has not been specified.
