HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Residents of 305 8th Street, a group home for adults with special needs, spent their Saturday morning selling lemonade and sweet treats.
305 8th Street is a non-profit organization that specializes in work with exceptional adults.
Their mission is to cultivate a family of diverse disabled adults who are ineligible of receiving state assistance and provide them a home and opportunities that enable them to grow in their community.
All the money from the lemonade stand went to programming and activities.
It took four hours of preparation to make sure everything was perfect. The lemonade was made fresh in anticipation of the stand, and cookies and brownies were homemade. Teaching exceptional adults about life skills is one of the main goals of 305 8th street.
Cydney Amos, the program director, says activities like these, helps prepare them for real-life experiences.
“We don’t get state funds at all. It's 100% solely donation-based so, any money, any help, any volunteer opportunities, any service, any prayers, anything, it helps our home," said Amos.
