ATHENS, Ala. — A man is dead and another injured following a shooting incident Saturday afternoon in Athens.
Police say dispatchers began receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting at the Fifth Avenue apartments of the Athens Housing Authority around 2:45 p.m. Officers arrived moments later and located the body of a man in a grassy area of the property.
Coroner Mike West later identified the victim of the shooting as 33-year-old Ladevine Adre Crutcher of Athens.
Police said that approximately the same time as the shooting investigation was underway, a man arrived at Athens Hospital in a private vehicle with a gunshot wound to the leg. Officers determined this man was also shot at Fifth Avenue Apartments. He was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
One male subject was detained for questioning. As of Sunday afternoon no arrests had been announced. The investigation remains ongoing.
