LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. — Limestone County Schools is working to close the learning loss gap caused by the COVID-19 pandemic with its Summer of Achievement in Reading (SOAR) program.
The district launched its SOAR program in all elementary schools on Monday, June 21. The district says this program also helps aid the Alabama Literacy Act.
“This is a great opportunity for our students to recover from any learning loss which occurred during the interruptions we experienced from COVID,” Superintendent Dr. Randy Shearouse said.
LCS said the program aims to help students in kindergarten through 3rd grade grow in reading and math areas. Students will also participate in various STEAM activities, according to the district.
“As we look forward to the start of the school year in August, our plan is to continue providing additional learning opportunities for students,” said Shearouse.
The three-week-long course will run through July 9.
