LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. — Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely's defense team on July 18 filed a motion to dismiss the charges against him for theft of property.
Blakely's defense claims in the motion that the State's opening argument show's their intent to use the four theft of property charges, two first-degree and two second-degree, beyond the scope of the law's intended purpose.
The motion comes on Sunday, July 18, after opening arguments were heard on Friday, July 15. The trial is set to resume on Monday, July 19. Follow WZDX News coverage for the most up-to-date information regarding the trial.

Fifteen jurors have been selected to serve on this case, twelve women and three men. Initially, questionnaires were sent to 500 potential jurors. From that 500, more than 100 possible jurors appeared for jury selection and it was finally narrowed down to a panel of 15 jurors.
