HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Kids will start school soon and one Huntsville church wants to make sure they're prepared. The East Huntsville Church of Christ handed out 100 backpacks to families on Saturday.
Volunteers had backpacks filled with supplies for both elementary and high school students. The giveaway was on a first come, first serve basis.
Organizers say the donations were financed by the church. Member say this is something they usually do, and realize the importance of giving away these items during the pandemic.
"During this time a lot of people have a lot of anxiety. They're seeing no hope. They don't think that there's anything out there. So they come. We're passing out gospel tracks that shows that there is hope for their lives. They're able to read what Jesus has done for them and just to show them a glimmer of hope," says East Huntsville Church of Christ Associate Minister, Matt Choate.
This is the church's fifth year hosting the backpack giveaway.
