DECATUR, Ala. — A Danville man was killed early Saturday morning after a crash at the Steamboat Bill Hudson Memorial Bridge. Decatur Police discovered the scene at about 1:10 a.m. when responding to a call about debris on the roadway.

Officers found damage to the guardrail and then discovered a vehicle partially submerged in the Tennessee River. The Morgan County Rescue Squad, Decatur Fire & Rescue and Decatur Morgan EMS all responded to the scene.

Investigators say the vehicle was travelling southbound on Hwy 31 and left the roadway, breaking through the guardrail and down an embankment before entering the Tennessee River.

The driver, who was identified as Michael Gene Knable, 55, was pronounced dead at the scene by Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn.
