Deputy hit during pursuit of erratic driver throughout Morgan County

The suspect reportedly hit several other law enforcement vehicles during a chase that passed through Hartselle, Falkville, and Decatur.

DECATUR, Ala. — A man was arrested Sunday following a pursuit that passed through three cities, involved multiple law enforcement agencies, and ended in a ditch off a rural road. The chase was chronicled by the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, which was brought in to assist.

The incident began in Hartselle, where officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle they said was driving erratically. The driver did not stop, prompting the pursuit.

Investigators say the pursuit reached Decatur, where the driver allegedly attempted to hit a police officer. The chase continued on, returning to the Hartselle jurisdiction and into Falkville. There, the suspect vehicle reportedly hit a deputy and attempted to hit several other vehicles belonging to law enforcement.

The vehicle continued to flee along Hwy 36, Morgan County officials said. A Priceville police officer was finally able to end the pursuit on Perkins Wood Rd. Photos show the vehicle in a brushy ditch, with a man believed to be the suspect kneeling in the ditch as officials survey the scene.

The Morgan County inmate roster website shows the suspect was booked on a charge of attempted to elude an officer. Bond has been set at $100,000. As of 8 p.m. Sunday, bond had not been posted and the suspect remains in the Morgan County Jail.

The condition of the deputy who was hit was not mentioned in the social media post about the pursuit.

Hartselle, Decatur, Priceville, Falkville police departments, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, and Morgan County 911 assisted.
