OWENS CROSS ROADS, Ala. — A group of concerned citizens representing the Owens Cross Roads, Big Cove, and Hampton Cove areas says their post office is overwhelmed with the number of packages it receives on a regular basis. They are calling on their Huntsville city representatives and Congressman Dale Strong to support an expansion of the local post office.

The Cove Area Citizens Action Group says it is a 650-member strong organization dedicated to representing the interests of a rapidly-growing community. The group cites the local postmaster as saying the Owens Cross Roads post office sees thousands of packages on any given weekday, with about 2,500 more coming in on weekends.

Photos shared by a representative of the group show postal workers unloading many packages from a number of U.S. Postal Service vans outside the building.

U.S. Census Bureau data shows the population of the area served by the post office is just shy of 22,000.

CACAG has called what it deems a "mini-town hall meeting" for Tuesday, Feb. 20 at the Wellpoint Senior Living Center from 6-8 p.m. to discuss post office issues.

A representative from Congressman Dale Strong's office is slated to attend the meeting, as well as City of Huntsville Councilman David Little and Madison County District 3 Commissioner Craig Hill.
