Jets release cornerback Tae Hayes after arrest on marijuana possession charge in Morgan County

Hayes was released from jail early Sunday morning after posting $300 bond, according to jail records.

DECATUR, Ala. — New York Jets cornerback Tae Hayes has been released from the NFL team one day after his arrest in Morgan County, Alabama on a marijuana possession charge.

In a statement released Monday, Jets officials said simply, "The Jets have released CB Tae Hayes."

Hayes was arrested early Sunday morning by Trinity Police Department officers, according to online records from the Morgan County Sheriff's Office.

Ke'Montae Tayvon Hayes, as the record reflects, was booked at 3:46 a.m. after his arrest by Trinity police, and released just after 5 a.m. after posting $300 bond.

Hayes played in one game for the Jets last season as a practice squad member, and according to Sports Illustrated statistics recorded two tackles during a Week 6 game over the Philadelphia Eagles. SI reports he has not appeared in any further games with New York. His time with the Jets is reportedly his sixth team professionally.

He was a defensive back during his collegiate career at Appalachian State.

ESPN's Rich Cimini reports that the Jets press team is aware of the arrest but declined to comment, saying that it is a pending legal matter.
