Local McDonald's restaurants awarding $10,000 in scholarships to HBCU students

The McDonald's Trailblazer Scholarship will award 10 $1,000 scholarships.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Local McDonald's owner-operators of the Greater Tennessee Valley are celebrating Black History Month by awarding scholarships to HBCU students. 

McDonald’s is proud to offer financial assistance to ten outstanding students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the Greater Tennessee Valley.

Students who are currently enrolled or enrolling at certain HBCUs during the 2022-2023 academic year can apply for one of ten (10) $1,000 scholarships online here through March, 21 2022. The scholarships can only be applied to verifiable costs associated with average tuition and usual fees.

Incoming and current HBCU students are encouraged to apply for the Trailblazer Scholarship Feb. 1 through March 21, 2022 at 11:59 PM EST. The HBCU student winners of these ten scholarships will be announced in April. 

Eligibility requirements: 

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Be enrolled full-time as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior attending an HBCU in the Greater Tennessee Valley during the 2022-2023 academic school year. Eligible HBCU's include Tennessee State University, Meharry Medical College, Fisk University, Austin Peay State University, Alabama A&M University, Oakwood University, Drake State Community College  
  • Current cumulative grade point average 3.0 or higher 
  • Able to demonstrate leadership abilities 
  • Be a U.S. citizen
