Man charged with murder after stabbing roommates

Two people were stabbed in the 400 block of Mountain Gap Road on Thursday evening, according to Huntsville Police.

UPDATE:  The Huntsville Police Department has officially charged 27-year-old Lester Cruz with murder and aggravated assault in connection with the fatal stabbing on the 400 block of Mountain Gap Road. HPD said officers responded to the area before 6 p.m. and found two victims with life-threatening injuries. 40-year-old Zennella Pena-Sandoval was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second victim was transported to the hospital and is expected to live. Huntsville police said that they found Cruz walking away from the scene minutes after the incident and took him into custody. 

During the investigation, HPD Major Crimes Unit Investigators said that they learned the suspect and both victims were roommates at the home and believes that an argument led to the stabbing. Cruz is now in the Madison County Jail. The investigation is ongoing 

2/1 - Huntsville Police said one of two people who were seriously injured in a stabbing in Southeast Huntsville on Thursday evening has died. The incident happened just before 5 p.m. on the 400 block of Mountain Gap Rd., just north of Hillwood Baptist Church and east of Memorial Parkway/Highway 231.

According to HPD, one victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, but is expected to survive.

One person was taken into custody, police said, and was still speaking with investigators as of a 9 p.m. update.  Investigators believe this was an isolated incident, but did not have further details about what led up to the stabbing.

The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been officially announced at this time.
