Warning siren at South Limestone Fire Station out of order

Officials stress circumstances like these are why residents need multiple ways of learning about emergency situations.

TANNER, Ala. — Limestone County emergency officials warned residents this weekend that one of their weather warning sirens is out of order for the foreseeable future. The Limestone EMA put a notice out on social media early Saturday morning, in advance of severe weather due to cross the region, stating that the siren at the South Limestone Volunteer Fire Station is not working.

The post said that an electronic board inside the equipment failed. The affected siren is on Mooresville Rd. South. Residents in the immediate area have been advised to have another way to receive weather alerts, like a weather radio.

Generally, officials say you should always have multiple ways to be warned of dangerous weather conditions. If power fails and you can't receive TV signals, a battery-powered device, such as an all-hazards radio or an AM/FM radio is beneficial. You can also have your cell phone handy with apps (like FOX54's mobile app) that can give you instantly-issued warnings and access to live video streams.

You should also consider having access to backup battery power for your mobile devices in case of prolonged outages.
