Lockheed Martin cut the ribbon on the new $18 million engineering facility in Huntsville.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Lockheed Martin, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense and Governor Kay Ivey, celebrated the grand opening of its new $18 million engineering facility in Huntsville. The new facility spans 122,000 square feet and has space for up to 500 employees, aiming to advance national security capabilities and foster innovation in North Alabama.

“I am proud to celebrate the opening of Lockheed Martin's new engineering facility. Alabama is proud to support our military and defense sectors, and Lockheed Martin’s presence in our state plays a crucial role in advancing national security, ensuring that our nation remains at the forefront of technological advancement,” said Governor Kay Ivey, “Lockheed Martin’s continued investment in Alabama is a testament to the strength of our workforce and the strategic importance of Huntsville in shaping the future of defense.”

The Huntsville site builds upon Lockheed Martin's more than 60-year legacy of partnership with the Huntsville community, supporting various defense domains such as air, space, land, sea, and cyber. With this new facility, Lockheed Martin's footprint in Alabama expands to 30 work sites, employing over 3,300 people across the state.

The engineering teams at the new facility will focus on advancing Lockheed Martin’s 21st Century Security initiatives, including readiness and sustainment for the U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter and the Missile Defense Agency's Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) system. Additionally, the site will support modeling and simulation programs for the Ballistic Missile Defense System.

A Rotary Wing Innovation Center within the facility will showcase modernized simulation tools and offer stakeholders insights into the future of Army aviation. Lockheed Martin will also have various programs including the Long Range Hypersonic Weapon, Next Generation Interceptor, Javelin Weapon System, and Terminal High Altitude Area Defense.
