Need a summer job? City of Madison needs more lifeguards

The city of Madison said its facing a lifeguard shortage.

MADISON, Ala. — The city of Madison Parks and Recreation Department is looking to hire more lifeguards for the upcoming summer season as it faces a lifeguard shortage.

The City said that due to a staffing shortage at Dublin Park, nearly half of the scheduled swim lessons will be canceled and the outdoor pool will be closed to the public on Thursdays.

Aquatics staff says they hope to fill staffing gaps in the coming weeks. Those interested in becoming a lifeguard can visit the city's website.

Certification training courses will be available at Dublin Park if candidates are not already certified. The City says the certification is valid for two years and covers necessary skills such as water rescue, CPR, using an Automated External Defibrillator and first aid.

To apply, you must be at least 16-years-old.

For more information or to schedule certification training, contact the city's aquatic director, Chris Lund, at Chris.Lund@Madisonal.gov or call 256-772-2560.
