MADISON, Ala. — Madison City Schools will extend its return to the modified in-person class schedule that started after Thanksgiving break.
In this hybrid schedule, students will alternate in-person and remote learning days. This applies to all schools and grade levels.
Families are also asked to tell the district if their students test positive or have contact with a COVID-19 case during the break by using this form. The information will allow staff to be prepared for the return of school.
According to Madison City Schools superintendent Ed Nichols, prior to Thanksgiving break, the number of teachers in quarantine came very close to forcing the district to move to completely virtual. The district believes that the rotating schedule will allow everyone to return with fewer quarantines and positive COVID-19 cases prior to winter break.
Students are split into A and B groups by alphabet, which will continue until schools dismiss for the winter break on Dec. 18.
The A group will attend on Monday and Tuesday and the B group on Thursday and Friday. All groups will be virtual on Wednesday to allow for buildings to be sanitized between rotational groups.
Split by student last name:
First Class Pre-K - Group A is A-L and Group B is M-Z
Columbia - Group A is A-K and Group B is L-Z
Heritage - Group A is A-K and Group B is L-Z
Horizon - Group A is A-K and Group B is L-Z
Madison - Group A is A-K and Group B is L-Z
Mill Creek - Group A is A-L and Group B is M-Z
Rainbow - Group A is A-J and Group B is K-Z
West Madison - Group A is A-K and Group B is L-Z
Discovery - Group A is A-K and Group B is L-Z
Liberty - Group A is A-K and Group B is L-Z

Superintendent Ed Nichols says that with the rate of infection this high, if school don’t stay hybrid and keep social distancing at a maximum inside, they could very easily and quickly end up quarantining large groups of staffs and students and cause the potential to have to go completely virtual.
