Madison County Schools proposes a new approach to COVID-19 this school year

The proposed 'Ready, Set, Forward' program has not been approved by the school board yet.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Madison County Schools is reevaluating its plans to deal with COVID-19 in the 2021-2022 school year.

The "Ready Set Forward" plan proposed for Madison County Schools for the 2021-2022 has multiple levels intended to keep students and staff safe.

The new campaign would not require students to wear a mask or get vaccinated before coming to school in August.

Tim Hall of Madison County Schools explains, "We start the school year with mask optional. Some students, their parents will want them to wear a mask and that's absolutely fine."

The lowest level of the plan, Level 0, calls for traditional classroom learning with masks being optional. The highest level, Level 3, calls for all students to do remote learning 5 days a week.

There are things that Madison County Schools suggest that parents do at home.

"The same thing we asked last year. Parents before you send your children, do a temperature check at home," Hall said.

Students will also have their temperatures checked at school.
