MADISON COUNTY, Ala — Students who attend class at Madison County Schools, Huntsville City Schools and Jackson County Schools will stay at home Friday. The districts have declared an "eLearning Day" due to weather concerns.
DeKalb County Schools will delay the start of classes by two hours Friday.
Remnants of Hurricane Helene are expected to move across North Alabama, bringing possible strong storm conditions, including high winds, heavy rain and some flooding.
Administrators said that could create transportation problems.
In a social media post, Madison County Schools officials said: All campuses will be closed to students during the day. However, scheduled after-school activities, including athletics, may proceed as planned. Please be aware that MCSS administrators will continue monitoring the weather, and any event changes will be communicated promptly.

Huntsville City Schools cited the weather concerns, but explained that while students will stay home, "employees will report to their respective campuses at their regular start times to ensure the smooth operation of virtual learning. Any employees seeking special arrangements should contact their direct supervisor."
Most extracurricular and after-school sports activities are expected to proceed as scheduled.
